Roots Rock (Cincinnati)
Where 2007’s Sunshine in a Shot Glass was 500 Miles to Memphis’ carousing party record, last year’s We’ve Built Up to Nothing was the band’s Sgt. Pepper, an expansively brilliant album that showed Ryan Malott’s maturation and growth as a songwriter and frontman. 500MTM is now pared down to a lean and raucous quintet, as evidenced by their just-released live album, recorded at the Southgate House last May upon their triumphant return to the area after a successful road trip. Further proof will be found at this gig; don’t be late for your baptism.
