Alternative Rock (Granville, Ohio)
Black Owls describe themselves as “Mennonite Glam Rock.” Who are we to argue? Especially since they have the good taste and sense to install master timekeeper Brian Kitzmiller from Sparrow Bellows as their caffeinated heartbeat. The thing that Black Owls does infinitely well is mash their British Invasion/Punk influences into a thick paste and apply it in broad trowel strokes to their distinctly Midwestern presentation, crafting a sound that is both maddeningly familiar and strikingly original.
