Indie Rock/Pop (Cincinnati)
Jason Arbenz and Paul Cavins have seniority even among most elder statesmen in Cincinnati’s music scene, with a résumé that dates back to Liquid Hippos in the ’80s and Throneberry in the ’90s. For the past nine years, Arbenz and Cavins have been dusting area rafters with Goose (their second baseball-related band name ... do your own detective work), a rotating quintet that has achieved the zen formula for mixing the subtleties of melancholy Pop and the bluster of appropriately bombastic Rock. Goose’s 2006 debut album, Live It Up Turn It Goose, was a perfect presentation of the band’s estimable gifts, from Arbenz’s gravelly vocals to the group’s sinewy way around a groove of any tempo or intensity. Get thee to a studio again soon, Goose, and honk verily.
