Indie Rock (Beijing, China)
Since their inception in 2005, Hedgehog has held a unique position in the underground music scene in China. For the first two years of their existence, the power trio toiled away in relative obscurity, but a 2007 performance thrust them into the country’s underground spotlight, immediately raising their national profile and inspiring fierce loyalty. Atom is Hedgehog’s diminutive vocalist and drummer, almost invisible behind her kit but possessed of a powerhouse voice and thunderous timekeeping skills, Box weaves a hypnotic bass spell through every song and guitarist/vocalist ZO rolls out compelling walls of chordage, riffage and sweet feedback. If there’s any good news for America coming out of China, it’s that Hedgehog is coming.
You’ll Dig It If You Dig: Shonen Knife with more Dictators and Television and less Ramones. (Brian Baker, CityBeat)
~ "One of Beijing music label Modern Sky’s flagship bands, Hedgehog are among the most beloved acts in the country with an appeal driven by the immense talents of pint-sized drummer Atom and their catchy indie-rock sound." (Time Out Shanghai)
