Indie Rock (Toronto, Canada)
Over the past seven years, Hunter Valentine has been amassing a slavishly loyal fan base by churning out fist-pumping Rock that bristles with Punk intensity yet resonates with elemental classicism. Hunter Valentine’s primary point of attack is vocalist/guitarist Kiyomi McCloskey, who sneers out lyrics with a hellhound rage and stabs at her guitar like she sings; with barely restrained fury and tightly focused passion. Bassist/keyboardist Adreienne Lloyd and drummer Laura Petracca form a Sherman tank rhythm section, but one that can turn on a well-placed dime, if need be. Hunter Valentine’s sophomore full length, last year’s Lessons from the Late Night, is a sonic howitzer, making fans of the strong and target practice of the weak. Dig it if you dare.
