Though the ride’s been bumpy, July For Kings now stands as one of the top veteran original bands in Cincinnati, maintaining a dedicated following that began building in Middletown, Ohio, back in 1997. The band scored a deal with MCA Records early on, but was lost in the record label conglomeration clusterfuck of the past couple decades. Singer/songwriter Joe Hedges took a solo route for a while, but now alternates his own albums with new ones with July For Kings. JFK’s endurance (through lineup changes and label issues) has paid off creatively as well, as Hedges and Co. have developed a more unique, richer sound over time.
