Roots Punk Blues (Cincinnati)
With a fantastically diverse discography and one of the more engaging live shows Cincinnati audiences have seen in the past decade, The Sundresses have been somewhat quiet (relative term) this year. But they have done plenty of live shows, which are anything but quiet, and they are no doubt in some murky basement somewhere brewing up their next recorded masterwork. A mix of passion and fury informs the The Sundresses possessed live performances, not to mention a century’s worth of American music. If you haven’t checked them out, add it to yer bucket list, then cross it off after you witness what will likely to be yet another MPMF highlight set.
You’ll Dig It If You Dig: Howlin’ Wolf, Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams drop acid and get ripped while carpooling back to the future, where they announce their just-formed power trio (and get instantly banned from the Grand Ole Opry). (Mike Breen, CityBeat)
