Torchy Country Pop (Los Angeles)
“We want your body to move with every song,” says Chandra Watson, one half of the The Watson Twins with sister Leigh. Mission accomplished, Chandra. Born and bred in Louisville, the twins grew up on the classic Country and Soul songbooks of the 1970s, leanings that play heavily in the duo’s two full-length albums — 2008’s Fire Songs and 2010’s Talking to You, Talking to Me — both of which are laden with sleek, soulful ditties about love and longing. The ladies have called Los Angeles home for more a dozen years now, which makes sense — a strange sort of laid-back, West Coast ambiance lurks beneath the twins otherwise straightforward songs.
You’ll Dig It If You Dig: Jenny Lewis, for whom the Watsons once provided backing vocals; Shelby Lynne, if she were a brunette and there were two of her. (Jason Gargano, CityBeat)
~ "The Watsons consult vintage Southern styles for inspiration, incorporating touches of country and plenty of hot-blooded soul. The only problem with 'Calling Out,' 'Forever Me' and other alluring tracks is that they end too soon — the sultry vocals, churchy organ and stinging electric guitar of 'Midnight' leave you craving more."
