The MidPoint Indie Summer Series returns to Fountain Square on Friday evenings June 3-Sept. 2. For the third consecutive year, MidPoint presents national, regional and local acts for free on downtown’s main public square, leading up to the big MidPoint Music Festival Sept. 22-24.
The kickoff show June 3 features fun, lively local Electronica duo You You’re Awesome, joined by Electro/Hip Hop duo Javelin and Kentucky’s Lydia Burrell, the Electronica alter ego of My Morning Jacket pal Alexander Smith. June 10 brings back one of the biggest draws of last year’s Summer Series, Texas-based Chillwave faves Neon Indian (pictured), who will be joined by dynamic Brooklyn Indie Rock "one-man-band" Oberhofer.
Cincinnati's own nationally renowned Indie Pop faves Pomegranates are the headliners on July 1. And things get blissfully weird July 8 with New Orleans’ flamboyant Big Freedia, the transvestite “Queen Diva” of Bounce, a genre that’s a wildly energized regional spin on Hip Hop adorned with N’awlins-informed accoutrements.
On July 15,
fantastic local Electro/Indie/New Wave crew Eat Sugar is joined by Kentucky Electronic band The Pass and local Indie
Rock newcomers Starfox. July 22’s show features local rockers July For
Kings, The Prohibitionists and The Western. And Indie/Punk/Pop hero Ted
Leo headlines the July 29 Indie Summer show with his band The Pharmacists; the bill includes trippy L.A. duo Tweak
Bird and local up-and-comers Belle Histoire.
Three-day MidPoint wristbands will be on sale at all Indie Summer Series shows at a special discounted rate (while they last). Come by the MPMF tent on Fountain Square and save some cash on your wristbands.
The remainder of the MidPoint Indie Summer Series lineup will be revealed in the coming weeks. Check here for the latest updates.
